A Curious Traveler's Guide to Africa’s Hidden Gems

Published: 1 October 2024

Consider yourself a globe trotter or well-traveled individual who has racked up more earthly miles than others? Or are you someone shy of crowds, in search of destinations few have discovered and where authenticity isn’t in the frills of resorts, but rather in the bumpy dirt roads and locals opening up their homes? If you’ve answered a resounding “yes” to either (or both) of these two statements, this blog is for you - Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia and Uganda are all equally deserving of a spot on your bucket list. And here’s why…

As the CEO of Anywhere in Africa Safaris, my travels often take me to the most breathtaking corners of our continent. This journey, from July 19th to 24th, 2024, was not just a holiday, but an educational visit that deepened my appreciation for this beautiful country. Calling the Adventurous Spirit: Africa’s Top Desert Destinations

Published: 15 July 2024

When someone refers to a desert as “just” a place of sand, dunes and heat - the hair on any travel specialist’s neck stands up. However, we see misinformed statements like these as “challenge accepted” - so here’s something that may change your perception of Africa’s top desert destinations.

Experience the Magic of South Africa’s Secret Season: Kirsty Gordon on Why You Should Visit South Africa in May

Published: 27 June 2024

I’m one of the lucky few people in this entire world who get to call South Africa, “home.” It’s a privilege that isn’t wasted on me. In fact, my love for this great land was one of the main reasons why I returned from the UK in 2008 and started Anywhere in Africa Safaris. Thank goodness for things like Facebook and Instagram (I’m not on TikTok…yet), because I can now share the beauty of this place with you all.

Discover Africa’s Hidden Beach Gems: Kirsty’s Guide to Lesser-Known Paradise Islands and Beaches

Published: 11 June 2024

Before I start, this blog is not just for honeymooners. Oh no. If anything, I wrote this for the adventurous spirit, the couple who has spent almost an entire lifetime together and who wants to see places few others have experienced. It’s for those who shun the tourist crowds and want something where nature and marine life is front and centre, and if there is a mix of more affordable and luxurious hotels then “sure, sign me up!”

Inspirational Travel Stories

Kirsty created the most wonderful holiday for us through the Western Cape and Garden Route. Her knowledge of the area is unrivalled and it was a pleasure to work with her on planning the trip. The trip itself went perfectly smoothly and she was always on hand and checking in to make sure everything went well. I would highly recommend Anywhere in Africa and I will certainly be using them again in the future.

Simon Dangoor

Kirsty Gordon and the Anywhere in Africa team made our trip better than we could have possibly imagined. She was spot-on in our accommodations and the suggestions on activities. She gave guidance on everything from local customs & tipping to packing.

I knew our family of 8 is not accustomed to "roughing it" and would prefer our usual creature comforts. But I honestly did not know accommodations this nice were available on safari. We stayed in Kenya. The people were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. The only thing we didn't do well was bring more warm layers for the time of year (late July to early August). But the guides all had blankets in their vehicles and the "camps" even did our laundry. I had just underestimated the amount of time we would be outdoors in the early morning and evenings (the elevation is surprisingly high in many places).

Kirsty gave us information on a hot air balloon ride/safari. We were not going to do it at first (I hate flying), but it was fantastic! So smooth and peaceful...with wonderful views. It was worth the early morning wake-up. The drive to our balloon in the dark also turned into a game drive. We saw animals in the dark that we did not see elsewhere. We stayed in 2 different places for game drives which gave us 2 different experiences. We loved them both. Certainly, seeing the great migration was amazing. The amount of life that follows that migration is really more incredible. And the locations where we stayed were convenient and felt private. We were not overrun with other tourists. I could definitely go on and on about the trip and Kirsty's planning. I would highly recommend her and going to Kenya. I am sure the other locations in Africa where she sends clients are just as stunning.

We traveled to Rwanda and Zimbabwe this summer and had a fantastic experience. Anywhere in Africa planned everything for us. Kirsty Gordon was terrific!

Kirsty was outstanding to work with and certainly set us up for the trip of our lifetime. When we reached out to her, she arranged a time for us to zoom so she could get to know us and hear our dreams for our trip. She listened carefully as she provided us a very basic framework to start and allowed us to have time to look into the itinerary and accommodations.

When we set up the second zoom she listened and made adjustments to our trip. Kirsty planned a trip that included a tree lodge, fabulous tents, gorgeous hotels, and cultural experiences throughout the trip. She provided all the details we would need, checklists, book suggestions, and other possibilities to consider. Once the trip was finalized, she was more than willing to meet with us to go over any questions/concerns we might have had. She rechecked with us on all of the details necessary for the 23-day trip which included several flights, transfers, custom/visa checks, health records and incidentals. Kirsty was so comforting and available if we had any questions during our journey. We truly believe we would not have had this type of experience without the expertise of Kirsty.

Thank you Anywhere In Africa for making our dreams come true!

Shelley Anthony

Our first safari and it surpassed even our wildest dreams. The people - Gwen, Theo, Gora, Oscar and the rest of the staff catered to our every need and desire.

The wildlife? We saw it all and then some. Gora knew when and where to go to find them. The rains hadn’t arrived yet so it was very dry. By the time we boarded the flight to Cape Town we had checked every box.

Thank you Kwetswani! You will forever have a piece of our hearts! And thanks to Kirsty at Anywhere in Africa Safaris for finding the right adventure for us!
